YOU LEAD THE WAY
“You lead the way, we’ll end the night all over the place, fuck up our lives, throw it all away, can I live to fight another day?”
Some songs take weeks - even months to finish. Others show up all at once, before you have the chance to second guess them. This was one of them.
At the time, my EP Beacon Hill was finished, sitting on a hard drive, ready to be released. I had no plan for what was next - no album concept, no direction - just a blank canvas.
Then this song cracked something open. I’ve never felt momentum quite like it.
You Lead The Way is about choosing to act on your intuition, following that feeling that tells you to move even when fear tells you otherwise. There’s a kind of reckless trust in that: stepping forward not because you know it’s right or wrong, but because something in you says you have to.
It didn’t just spark what came after - it gave the rest of these songs a place to land, a reason to exist. It gave me the freedom to create, even when I couldn’t see the bigger picture just yet.
Musically, it’s one of the more urgent songs on the album. A guitar, kick drum, and that restless energy pushing everything forward - like standing on the edge of now or never.
If you’ve ever followed something without a plan, just a feeling - this one’s for you.
Hope it finds you, Josef
